Hippólito Collomb
Biography
Hipolito (or Hypólite) Collomb was a Portuguese caricaturist, theater set designer and comic artist. He was one of regular contributors to magazines like Novidades, República, Os Ridículos and O Século Cómico, around the 1910s. One of his comics is titled 'A Derrota dos Alemães'. In the 1910s, after the Republic was declared in Portugal, he was the author of a famous, and now very scarce, set of political postcards entitled The Seven Deadly Sins, portraing Portuguese republican politicians. In the 1930s he joined the Brazilian film industry, contributing to more than 13 movies between 1935 and 1941, as art director, editor and production designer. He passed away in Rio de Janeiro.
